Spaghetti Dinner

Thanks to everyone who helped with the Spaghetti Dinner - we raised !1289.00 for Lutheran Disaster Relief! Special thanks to the Talarico family who made and donated the sauce and meatballs and to Larry Reuss/Giant Eagle for donating all of the pasta and bread. Thanks to all of the kids and adults who helped that night, and to everyone who contributed to the bake sale. And thanks to Barb McQuaid and everyone who helped make palm crosses for Palm Sunday!

Springdale Food Pantry

The designated item for May is packets/ boxes of side dishes. This would include Knorr/ Lipton packets, Rice-a-Roni or any other items in this shelf area.
The Springdale Food Pantry services to over 175 families in the area. Because of your generous donations, the food pantry was able to distribute over 200 boxes of cake mix. Every client was able to have a cake for Easter dinner. Thanks to our wonderful, generous congregations! Perishable and non-perishable items are collected and also purchased from the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank, however we seldom receive packets of side dishes. We depend on the churches and private donations for items not available to purchase from the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank. We appreciate your support in enriching the lives of others.

Saturday Evening Services

Worship and Music Committee in conjunction with Church Council have decided to conduct a test during the months of June and July with a Saturday evening service at 5:30pm. This is at the same time we have only one service on Sunday at 9:00am.

The first Saturday service will be on June 4th with a Pot Luck Dinner afterwards. Details to follow.

These Saturday services will not include communion. We are looking for guitar or piano music. The service should last approximately 1/2 hour.

We are looking for ways to increase attendance at Good Shepherd.

Progressive Dinner

Saturday, May 21st

Good Shepherd is planning a Progressive Dinner for Saturday, May 21st. We will start the evening at 5:00pm at Jan and Chuck Malone’s house for appetizers, and then travel to Jason and Leanne Bentz’s for the main course/sides/salads and will conclude at Michele and Larry Reuss’ home for dessert. All the homes are within an easy 10 minute drive of each other. This is a wonderful opportunity for adult members to get to know one another better and enjoy a relaxing and fun evening. We ask that those attending bring either an appetizer, salad/side dish or dessert. A sign-up sheet is available in the Narthex to indicate that you are planning on attending and to sign-up for a particular food contribution. Or you can sign-up by contacting either Jackie at the church office, or Karen Fleischman (412) 389-0013 or Vickie Wille (412) 968-0455.

Come join your fellow members for an evening of great conversation and food! If you are interested in meeting at the church first and then car pooling to the progressive dinner homes, please let either Karen or Vickie know.

Greeters Needed

We are in need of members interested in serving as Greeters for the Sunday services as well as the upcoming Saturday evening services to be offered in the summer. Serving as a greeter is a wonderful opportunity to create a warm, welcoming environment to our Good Shepherd visitors as well as a great way for getting to know your fellow members. The role of the Greeter is important one for our worship service by creating a welcoming first impression of our church and congregation and is a fun way to serve within a flexible time commitment.  Greeters are asked to arrive approximately 20 - 25 minutes ahead of the scheduled service time to welcome our worshipers and provide them with a bulletin. Greeters are scheduled on a rotational basis and generally are scheduled to serve one Sunday every 6 - 8 weeks.    Please contact Jackie in the church office, or Karen Fleischman (412) 389 - 0013, if you can serve as a Greeter and we will add you to the list of volunteers. When you volunteer, please let us know what worship service(s) would generally work best for you (8:00 Sunday services, 10:30 Sunday services, 9:00 Summer Sunday services, 5:30 Summer Saturday services). Also, thank you to all who currently serve as Greeters or who have served as a Greeter in the past and for helping to create the friendly at mosphere that Good Shepherd offers.

Lenten Soups

Thank you so much to everyone who contributed to the success of the Lenten Soups. We had an average attendance of 20 people for these meals. These include the people who helped in the set-up, making homemade soups, making homemade bread and helping in the clean up. This also included the Lenten Service at 7:30pm with a theme of "Faith."

For everyone who did attend we enjoyed some delicious soups and friendly conversation with other members of the church.

For those that did not attend I would like to get some feedback on what we could potentially do different next year that might persuade you to consider attending. You may drop comments in my mailbox in the office or send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Altar Flowers Calendar

One of the nicest ways we can honor someone or remember someone special, is to place flowers at the altar on Sunday mornings.

The Altar Flowers Calendar is located on the bulletin board in the Narthex.  Please print your name and your special message next to the date in which you want to have the flowers.
